Agricultural Education Club
Designed for agriculture education majors, this club provides students with opportunities to better themselves and expand their career horizons through networking and hands-on learning. Advisor: Dr. Shannon Arnold.
Agriculture Student Council
The Agriculture Student Council strives to promote agriculture within the College, the university and the state. The Council fulfills this mission by promoting the programs, organizations, and objectives of the College of Agriculture. It provies a sounding board for students and allows input into the actions of the CoA administration. Most clubs and organizations within the College have representatives that sit on the council. Alpha Gamma Rho - Alpha Delta Chapter
Alpha Gamma Rho is a professional agriculture fraternity with the purpose of "making better men through a broader and better agriculture." The house is open to all college men pursuing a degree in agriculture, food or fiber sciences, or to men with a strong agriculture background looking to stay connected with the industry. Montana State's AGR has earned a reputation for developing the foremost leaders in Montana Agriculture.
Members of AGR are constantly leading in the CoA in academics, agriculture clubs on campus and the larger community. Each year members raise over $14,000 for charities such as United Way, Farm Rescue and the Montana FFA Association during the annual fall "Testicle Festival." Alpha Zeta, Montana Chapter
Alpha Zeta is an honorary, professional society for students in agriculture and natural resources fields. Alpha Zeta members promote fellowship, leadership and scholarship in the College of Agriculture. Qualifying individuals receive letters inviting them to join Alpha Zeta, which also focuses on campus service activities. Advisor: Carl Igo.
American Society of Landscape Architects - Landscape Design Club
The purpose and mission of the Landscape Design Club is to enhance the educational experience of undergraduate landscape design students and other interested students by promoting awareness of the profession of landscape architecture through leadership opportunities, education, service and professional interaction. LDC participates in conferences and attends regional ASLA events and offers tours, networking and fundraising events such as the Pumpkin Carving Contest and Christmas Wreath Sales. College of Agriculture Ambassadors
The CoA Ambassador team is made up of twenty students who represent the College at events and in a recruitment capacity. The Ambassadors assist with events such as MSU Friday, Celebrate Ag! and the CoA Scholarship Banquet. New team members are recruited in February and March of each year. The Collegiate 4-H Club is a youth development organization. The club functions independent of the counties and in conjunction with the 4-H Center for Youth Development. The club facilitates workshops around the state on topics such as outdoor activities, projects, leadership, and many others. The club also plans and participates in Montana 4-H Congress. Advisor: Brett Schomer.
The Collegiate Cattlewomen's organization is open to women enrolled at MSU who are interested in dedicating their time and talent to the future of beef, agriculture and their communities. Their goals include public education and promotion of the business of agriculture. The club also assists Montana Cattlewomen and the Montana Beef Council in promoting the welfare of the beef industry.
The club has three main projects. The first is a monthly presentation called “The Perfect Cheeseburger” in which a short presentation is given to an elementary school class using a giant pillow cheeseburger. Second is a campus beef promotion in the fall in which they hand out free beef samples and answer questions along with clarifying misconceptions. Thirdly, the group hosts an educational forum in the spring in which they present guest speakers concerning a topic of interest within the beef industry. Members attend national and state conventions, have fundraisers, BBQ’s, and much more. The club offers women an opportunity to expand their communication and leadership skills while working with their peers to educate the community. Advisor: Dr. Jane Ann Boles.
The MSU Collegiate FFA Chapter is a campus organization for those who have formerly been affiliated with FFA or are interested in the activities of the Collegiate Chapter. Although it is a departmental club for agricultural education majors, students in other curriculums are welcome. The College Chapter is very active in educational activities and is responsible for organizing and directing contests at the Annual State FFA Convention, and work closely with other organizations within the CoA. Advisor: Dr. Tracy Dougher.
Collegiate Stockgrowers at MSU is a place for the leaders of tomorrow to be formed. We are passionate about agriculture and strive to be as involved with the industry as possible. From guest speakers to working on local ranches, we are determined to learn about all segments of agriculture. The support from Montana Stockgrowers is undeniable and without them we would be lacking in both contacts and opportunities. If you are looking for a place to get to know people in the CoA or want to be active in the industry, you have found the right club. Come to a meeting and learn about the all the industry possibilities and scholarship opportunities. We promise you’ll have a great time and meet many wonderful people. Collegiate Young Farmers & Ranchers
The Montana Farm Bureau Collegiate Young Farmers and Ranchers Club welcomes students with an interest in agricultural issues. The purpose of the club is to further communication among people with an interest in agricultural issues, educate college students about the work of an agricultural organization, provide college students experience with local, state and national government through active participation in legislative activities, learn about Farm Bureau policies and activities, and promote the profession of agriculturally-related occupations. The club is open to any student, regardless of major, with an interest in agriculture. CYFR have the opportunity to take part in the grassroots policy development process for the Montana Farm Bureau and the American Farm Bureau.
We participate in the Montana Farm Bureau annual convention, Young Ag Leadership Conference, Collegiate Farm Bureau Discussion Meet, AFBF Annual Meeting, statewide ag expositions and other industry events. YF&R Leadership Conference, YF&R Calling on the Capitol, National Ag Day, Issues Forum and MFBF Summer Meetings are all on our agenda. What makes this club truly unique are the opportunities that the Montana Farm Bureau can provide the students after graduation. Advisor: Dr. Anton Bekkerman.
Friends of Local Foods
Friends of Local Foods was formed in the fall of 2006 to bring a diverse group of students and faculty together to raise awareness about local foods and encourage sustainable lifestyles on campus and in the community. Advisor: Macdonald Burgess
Horseman's Club / IHSA Equestrian Team
The Horseman’s Club welcomes any and all students interested in horses. Ownership of a horse is not required. The Horseman’s Club is a great place for equine-minded people to meet and network through meetings and activities including movie nights, bowling nights, fundraisers and demonstrations by other equine-minded people throughout the Gallatin Valley. The IHSA team travels and competes throughout Montana, Idaho and Utah in events such as English Equitation, Western Equitation, Reining and English Equitation Over Fences. The mission of the Horticulture Club is to broaden the educational experience through application of studies outside the classroom setting, hands-on experience of the broad aspects of the horticulture field, social and community involvement, and the establishment of networking connections. Advisor: Dr. Tracy Dougher.
Land Resources and Environmental Sciences Graduate Club
The LRES graduate club seeks to unite and engage students interested in the environmental sciences within the university and local community in activities related to land management and environmental sciences. The club's objectives are: 1) to expose interested students to career and internship opportunities through informal lunch-time seminars and panel discussions with local scientists and natural resource managers; 2) to raise money to fund field trips with natural resource professionals to increase student understanding of local and regional research and management projects; and 3) to be involved in campus-wide activities to promote awareness of environmental science issues. Land Resources and Environmental Sciences Undergraduate Club
The LRES Undergraduate Club is a student-led organization. Our goal is to help students connect with faculty and other students with common interests. We spend the semester volunteering for causes that YOU care about, learning ways to help market ourselves in our field, and enjoying the outdoors. Livestock Judging Team
Students involved in livestock judging learn how to sharpen their decision making and communication skills, and gain knowledge about a wide variety of segments of the livestock industry in different parts of the country. Livestock Judging Team members have the opportunity to travel National Livestock Judging Contests, and through judging, students learn valuable skills that they will use for the rest of their lives. Meat Judging Team
The MSU Meat and Meat Processing Center is a state-inspected facility for processing meat animals. It has much of the equipment necessary for sausage and ham manufacturing. In addition, there is a chemistry laboratory for analysis of a wide range of physical and chemical properties of meat. Students learn to cut carcasses and manufacture sausages and ham in this facility. The MSU Meat Lab also supports the Meats Judging Team and provides hands-on experience for students interested in meat and carcass evaluation. Advisor: Dr. Jane Ann Boles.
MSU Driving Club
The Driving Team is a group of individuals interested in learning the dying art of driving teams of draft horses. We show Draft Horses at shows and teamster competitions during the school year. We go for the original horse power! Advisor: Andi Shockley.
MSU's equine polo club was formed in 2005. We compete in the Northwest region of USPA intercollegiate polo. It's a great group to join if you enjoy equine activities. All interested students are welcome regardless of riding/playing experience. Horse ownership is not necessary. Look for us at the MSU pavilion on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Pre-Veterinary Medicine Club
The Pre-Veterinary Club is designed for students interested in all areas of veterinary medicine. Members come from all walks of the undergraduate curriculum, from Animal and Range Science, to Chemistry. The club provides educational opportunities, community service, tips on applications, visits to vet school campuses and participation in CoA activities. Advisor: Dr. Becky Mattix.
Range Management Club
The Range Management Club is open to any student interested in range ecosystems and their management. This club has close ties to the International Society for Range Management. Functions include sponsorship of an Undergrad Range Management Exam Team (URME), and an International Range Plant Identification team; guest speakers who are controversial, entertaining, and informative; and field trips. We also support a variety of social functions.
Students interested in Range Science should try out for the competitive Range Plant Identification Team and the Undergraduate Range Management Exam Team. These teams represent MSU at annual contests held in conjunction with the annual International Society for Range Management Convention. The club meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month in Room 238 of the Animal Bioscience building. Advisor: Dr. Craig Carr.
Donated by private producers, Steer-A-Year steers are used in several classes at MSU and sold when finished. This program provides students an opportunity for hands-on experience feeding cattle and with feedlot management. Advisor: Hannah DelCurto
